In 65 some physical-chemical engineers, awakened to
continuous technical progress in the machinery for industrial production, decided a
research in a field of special lubricants applied to the industrial maintenance. Leaving
from the known bases on the friction, wear and deformation of the interested metal,
concluded, after some years, their search, formulating a series of new products based of
the improvements of the current standard. With new formulas, new additives and partially
changing and transforming in applications the theoretical known basis born a new solid and
liquid lubricants, based on the principles of TRIBOLOGY which deals
specifically with problems related to the static-free contact of two interdependent
surfaces. In effect, examined under a microscope, every working metallic surface, also if
perfectly even, takes on the rugged appearance that metallurgist and other specialists
call lunar landscape. When a lubricant film is ruptured (cause derived by a lot of
situations like : heavy shock load, high temperature, cold starting), contacting
surfaces cannot be separated and opposing asperities interlock. All this causes a
destruction, the peaks fracture repeatedly under the forces of equipment operation. An
irreversible sequence of destructive wear begins. Uncontrolled friction generates
excessive heat and wear besides squandering energy. For the maintenance department this
means premature parts failure, frequent and expensive repairs, costly unscheduled downtime
and needlessly high energy bills. On the matter, it need to remember that over the 20% of the worlds energy production is consumed in overcoming friction. The objectives of the lubrication are: - Reduce friction - Reduce wear - Carry away heat between the separation of the working surfaces with a film of oil. |
However this terminology is insufficient and generic. For the high complexity of the modern machinery are needed "special lubricants" to extend lube cycles, to extend the life of wear parts, to minimize the repairs time and the hours spent in unscheduled maintenance. |
